Synthesis of sweet, water-soluble C-linked ferrocenyl sugar derivatives using 2-ferrocenyl-1, 3-dithiane

ABSTRACT:

A novel methodology for the synthesis of covalently attached ferrocene-carbohydrate conjugates from ferrocene carboxaldehyde is presented. The coupling reactions of ferrocenyl dithiane anions with various sugar electrophiles were optimized, yielding stable products at low temperatures. Both hydrophobic and hydrophilic ferrocene-carbohydrate derivatives were developed. The electrochemical properties of these synthesized ferrocene dithiane and ferrocene sugar derivatives have been thoroughly investigated, highlighting their potential applications in electrochemical studies and materials science.
